Workspace Git Commands

Use these commands inside your workspace containers to work with Git repositories:

Every workspace has its own Git account: $FORGEJO_USER with the access token $FORGEJO_TOKEN in its environment, so the commands below work as-is. It only reaches its own repositories (and those shared with it); new repositories are private.

🆕 Create New Repository
curl -u "$FORGEJO_USER:$FORGEJO_TOKEN" -X POST \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"name":"my-project","description":"My new project","private":true}' \
  http://forgejo:3000/api/v1/user/repos

Replace my-project with your desired repository name.

🔗 Clone Repository
git clone http://$FORGEJO_USER:$FORGEJO_TOKEN@forgejo:3000/$FORGEJO_USER/repo.git
📂 Add Remote to Existing Project
git remote add origin http://$FORGEJO_USER:$FORGEJO_TOKEN@forgejo:3000/$FORGEJO_USER/repo.git
git push -u origin main
⚡ Shortcut
setup_local_remote

Run this inside an existing Git repository — it creates the remote repository and wires up origin for you.

🌐 Web Access

Browse repositories in the web interface:

/git/

The workspace token is meant for Git and the API; it cannot be used to sign in to the web interface. Administrators sign in with GIT_ADMIN_USER and see all repositories.

Continue later: repositories stay when a workspace is deleted. Create a new workspace with "Clone from Git Repository" and the repository's /git/… URL — it gets access automatically, no token needed.

Note: The forgejo:3000 hostname resolves only inside workspace containers. Replace my-project and repo with your actual repository name.

Workflow: Create repo → Clone/Add remote → Push your code. No need to use the web interface for basic repository creation!

Private repositories: The account above may not be the owner of every repository on this server. Repositories owned by another account are not visible with these credentials.

AI Development Tools

🎯 VS Code Extensions

Pre-installed in every workspace (Kilo Code on request):

Cline

Autonomous agent for multi-file edits and terminal commands, with approval for each step. Bring your own key (Anthropic, OpenAI, OpenRouter, local models, …).

Extension ID: saoudrizwan.claude-dev
cline.bot →

Kilo Code (optional)

Open-source agent (MIT) with chat, autocomplete and modes for planning, coding and debugging. Kilo account (gateway to many models) or your own keys for 30+ providers. Not pre-installed: it takes about 550 MB and about 350 MB RAM even when idle. Install it in the workspace terminal, then reload the window. Privacy: telemetry and the upload of sessions to the Kilo cloud are switched off in these workspaces.

The tools do not update themselves, so everybody in a workshop keeps the same versions. Update them without sudo when you want to:

Users

Group users sign in with their own user name and only see the projects of their groups. There they can open, rename, start and stop workspaces and edit notes and workspace passwords. Everything else stays with the admin.
